Seamus Lefroy-Brooks

Bsc (Hons), MSc, CEng, MICE, CGeol, FGS, CENv, MIEnvSc, FRGS, SiLC, British Geotechnical Association registered geotechnical specialist, Geotechnical Adviser Status (ICE, SISG, 1993).

Founder and managing director of the company, Seamus is well known and has over 35 years of wide-ranging experience in the geoenvironmental industry in both the UK and abroad. He is responsible for both the commercial and technical direction of LBH WEMBLEY Geotechnical and Environmental.

Seamus is one of the few people to have achieved multi-chartered status as a Geologist, Civil Engineer and Environmentalist. This has given him a unique ability to understand our Clients’ needs fully and to bring a wealth of practical solutions to any situation.

Seamus is the current Chairman of the Land Forum which brings together Westminster, Northern Ireland and Welsh governments and their expert agencies along with regulators and industry organisations to progress issues affecting brownfield development and sustainability.

Seamus is also the current Chairman of the Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS), a long-established trade association that represents the interests of consultants, contractors and laboratories involved in the investigation and assessment of land.

He is a Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) and one of twelve experts appointed to the government’s National Expert Panel to assist local authorities with the regulation of Contaminated Land. He was also named by DEFRA as one of thirteen leading experts within the land contamination sector who assisted with the April 2012 Part 2A statutory revisions.

Seamus previously served on the Cabinet Office SGV Task Force and was a member of the former DEFRA Contaminated Land Forum / National Brownfield Forum.

He was a founding committee member of the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA), is an active member of the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) Contaminated Land Working Group and sits on the Construction Industry Council (CIC) Ground Forum.

Seamus was a member of the former Contaminated Land Risk Advisory Forum of the Health Protection Agency and the former Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee to the Technology Strategy Board’s Environmental Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN).

He is a member of the BSI 526/03 Geotechnics sub-committee on Site investigation (Eurocodes) and a member of the BSI drafting panel for the revision of BS 8485 Guidance for ground gas.

Seamus sits on the Joint Industry Working Group (JIWG) for Asbestos in Soils and was a member of Working Group (WG2) of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Committee for Fibre Measurement (CFM), tasked with formulating revised HSE guidance HSG248.

He has also sat on various CIRIA project steering groups producing guidance on UXO, VOCs, gas membranes and asbestos.
